The Virtuous Voyage
September 18, 2009
Friday, September 18th was a day like no other here at CCS. With homemade hats and spy glasses our students and staff set off on our maiden “Virtuous Voyage”. The day coincided with International Talk Like a Pirate Day, so CCS Students put on their pirate gear and traveled the campus in search of hidden treasure. But the treasure they sought was not gold nor precious gems. They were after a different, more valuable kind of treasure: the CCS Core Virtues! At each treasure chest, students got the opportunity to hear and talk about a different Core Virtue, such as Self-Control, Respect, Courage and Love of Country. Each student was provided a compass, and with maps created by each grade level, the students were able to locate treasures that represented each of the eight Core Virtues that we will focus on, school-wide, during each month this year. In between looking for hidden treasure, students got to dance to various pirate tunes. CCS staff even got into the fun, dressing up and talking like pirates for the morning. Everybody had a good time and nobody had to walk the plank!
