First Grade

First grade will focus on expanding each student’s reading comprehension skills and grammar skills.  The students will write daily in their personal journals to reinforce these learned skills.  Daily hands-on math activates will reinforce addition, subtraction, place value, time, money, fractions, measurement, and geometry. 

Students will learn about the first English settlers in America and about the first Thanksgiving.  In addition, the students will have the opportunity to explore and learn about Incas, Mayas, and Aztec civilizations and to expand their knowledge of Egypt and Egyptian artifacts.  In Science, students will learn about the different land and ocean habitats in which creatures live.  Students will learn about the human body, electricity, dinosaurs, and the solar system.
