![]() May 15, 2007 - Chess Club Update CCS ADDS ANOTHER TEAM TROPHY The CCS Chess Team scored a 5th place finish at The Mirage Tournament, held April 21, 2007. The team scored 10 points, led by Colton Sattler’s perfect 5-0 performance! Zamar Massey and Johann Forero proved their chess skills worthy, as the trophy was won by only a half point! Colton Sattler placed 1st overall in the K-6 under 700 section, winning his own individual trophy, and Zamar Massey’s 25th place earned him a trophy as well. All three students qualified for the 11th annual Governor’s Cup State Championship, held April 28, 2007. They were joined by Jacob Robles-Wells, creating one of the strongest teams Challenge Charter has sent to such an event. “Four very talented players can do a lot of damage at a huge tournament like the Governor’s Cup. They are in serious competition for the biggest chess title Challenge Charter will have ever achieved,” exclaimed Coach Woody Woodson. Way To Go, CCS Chess Team!
***************************************************************************** CONGRATULATIONS to the Challenge Charter School Chess Team, as they have notched another team trophy! They placed 5th in the “K-6 Under 700” section at The Rumble, held at Explorer Middle School in Scottsdale. Challenge Charter scored 5 points at the event, led by 3 points from Colton Sattler (8th place overall) and 2 points from Jacob Robles-Wells (25th place overall). Both Colton and Jacob won individual trophies for placing in the top twenty-five. Coach Woody Woodson was actually mildly surprised in this particular win. “I’ve never seen a team trophy at this level won by just the two in one section. ‘They both had to play very well for this to happen and I’m proud of their efforts and patience,” stated Coach Woody. There are 14 players on the team and there is still time to join them in their quest for The Governor’s Cup. If your child is interested in joining the team or playing in one of the next events, please call Coach Woody at (602) 930-5717 or the Chess Emporium at (602) 482-4867. |
